Benet Academy Cemetery
On the grounds of Benet Academy is a small cemetery reflecting the early days of that campus, namely, St. Joseph’s Orphanage. The monks of St. Procopius Abbey and the sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery provided care for homeless children for many years after moving to Lisle from Chicago. The closing of the orphanage in 1956 allowed for the growth of Benet Academy. Several of the graves, with sparse headstone information, are those of children who died while at the orphanage. A few individuals who left the St. Joseph’s Orphanage when of age asked to be buried in the little cemetery when they died.
