On Saturday, October 15, 2005, Bro. Eric Pohlman, professed his simple vows as a Benedictine in the Abbey Church.
|
|
Before the monastic community and family and friends who have assembled, Abbot Dismas asks Bro. Eric what he asks of God and his Church? Bro. Eric answers, “I ask for the
mercy of God and for the grace to serve him faithfully in this community.”

The vows publicly proclaimed are read from a document written in Bro. Eric’s own hand. After having read his formula, he takes the document to the altar, signs it, and leaves it
there for the remainder of the liturgy.

With arms raised in solemn petition before God and the saints, the Suscipe is sung three times by Bro. Eric. It is repeated by the monastic community....”Uphold me, Lord, according to
your promise, that I may live. Let my hope in you not be in vain.” Abbot Dismas, followed by the monks, exchange the sign of peace with Bro. Eric after he has received the clothing of the Benedictine and
the Holy Rule.

Father in heaven, hear our prayer on behalf of Bro. Eric who has been led by the Spirit to dedicate his life to you. In your mercy, grant him the strength to seek you with a pure
heart and to serve his brothers and sisters for your sake. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
