Reflections
Reflections was begun in May, 1987 for individuals interested in exploring the Benedictine monastic life at St. Procopius Abbey in Lisle. What follows are two short statements defining the goals of this Abbey publication.
“Scripture asks us how the Good News will be spread if it is not sent, and how will it be sent unless someone does the service. Wishing to share our particular monastic charism in proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord, we at St. Procopius Abbey are establishing a brief publication of our spiritual reflections and activities for those friends of ours who have visited the Abbey, have come to know the monks, and would like to continue their discernment process. Its contents will concentrate on the spiritual direction found in the Rule of our Holy Father Benedict which he culled from Scriptural, liturgical, and monastic sources. We pray that a sharing of his insights will enable all of us to seek God and to ‘prefer nothing to the love of Christ.’”
— Abbot Hugh, O.S.B.
“We often find ourselves exposed to and controlled by our analytic, statistical, commercialized environment, mostly of our own doing and to our own detriment. Set some time aside for yourself. May your top priorities be to listen for God and to discover your personal identity by honest candid reflection.”
— Br. Guy, O.S.B.
Articles appearing in Reflections are written by the monks of
St. Procopius Abbey and is published four times a year.
